Step 1:-Open your control panel
Step 2:-Type visual in the search box
Step 3:- Now select the option adjust the appearance and performance of the windows pointed by down arrow.
Step 4:- Now check the radio button which says adjust for better performance click on apply and ok.

It's much of a basic information. Windows XP has similar options.
Alternatively, you can go to my computer, right click and go to properties, then click on the 'change settings' and then select the 'advanced' tab. Go to performance, you can find the same list there.
Good work for those new to windows 7, this post can really help them tweaking
